What a player: Liverpool's Alexander Isak replacement is here
What a player: Liverpool's Alexander Isak replacement is here Liverpool need someone who can replace Alexander Isak in the XI. That player has finally made himself known. Alexander Isak is the only available centre-forward in Liverpool's first-team squad. Or the only realiable one, anyway. Hugo Ekitiké remains out and we likely won't see him before the end of December at the earliest. It may even be longer than that, such was the achilles injury he suffered. Liverpool, then, are over reliant on Isak and that's a struggle. He had difficulties with fitness last season and the idea of playing him every game this season - or at least for the first six months of it - is a worrying one. The squad needs someone to replace him, in other words. Fortunately, they appear to have found exactly the right player. The Lewis Koumas show Lewis Koumas started up top for Liverpool against Tottenham Hotspur, in place of Alexander Isak . He ended up putting in a fantastic performance - even if he didn't find the net. He was unlucky not to, with one effort producing a fine save from Martin Dubravka. But Koumas's Man-of-the-match performance was about more than creating chances for himself. His movement off the ball was fantastic and helped create the opener for Alexis Mac Allister. He drove into the left-hand channel, pulling defenders away to let Cody Gakpo move the ball inside. And that kind of running - combined with next-level pressing intensity - is precisely what Liverpool need. They're not going to find another elite goalscorer like Isak and any replacement player should instead be someone who thrives in a supporting role. Move Isak out of the side and try to bring the best out of the wingers or the no.10. That's the move and Koumas is ideal for it. He creates space for teammates, operates as a pivot for wingers hoping to move inside, and presses relentlessly to make everyone's job easier. This should just be the beginning, then. We don't know what life will look like once Ekitiké returns to the fold but for now, Koumas is the one to step in for Isak - and we fully expect Liverpool to excel as a result.
