‘I’m happy with her so far’ – West Ham United boss Guarino on Gago contribution West Ham United head coach Rita Guarino says that she has been pleased with forward Kelly Gago’s impact since her arrival at the club. The 27-year-old joined The Hammers from Everton over the summer. She netted her first goal for her new club last weekend in a 2-1 victory over London CIty Lionesses. Gago will face her former side on Sunday when Everton visit the Chigwell Construction Stadium. When speaking in the pre-match press conference, West Ham United head coach Guarino said that she is pleased with what Gago has brought to the club so far. “Kelly Gago has a lot of potential to grow,” Guarino said. “She trains very well and performs in a way where she can show her strength. She’s focused and concentrated on what she needs to do. I’m happy with her so far. “Kelly wants to show every week the improvement that she’s making during training. I imagine it’s a special game for her [facing her former club], but it’s just a game. Maybe she has more motivation [for this game].” Latest opponents Everton needed an own goal to defeat Charlton Athletic 1-0 last weekend. Guarino shared her thoughts on The Toffees. She said “It’s a competitive league, every game is tough. We respect Everton, we think they’re a good, organised team, but to be honest, I’m focused on ourselves. We want to come back to our stadium, keep the energy of the stadium and do our best.” Going on to reflect on last weekend’s victory over London City Lionesses, Guarino said that the result has given her players a boost. She said “It’s been a fantastic week, it was a fantastic game. The performance was very, very high. We did well in the first half and started the second with an important goal to maintain the result, because we suffered a lot in the last 10 minutes. It was very important to score that [second] goal. I was very happy with the performance and the result.” West Ham United’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Everton kicks-off at 2pm on Sunday afternoon.
