There's an issue no one is talking about at the club right now. Liverpool are lacking severely in homegrown players. It has forced the Reds to register players like Isaac Mabaya and James McConnell, who probably have no real long-term future at Anfield. Over the course of the last 18 months Liverpool have lost Trent Alexander-Arnold, Caoimhin Kelleher, Jarell Quansah, Curtis Jones, Tyler Morton and a couple of other players as well who could have bolstered their homegrown options. In their place Liverpool have signed very few actual homegrown players. Which means right now there is an excess of non-homegrown players at the squad. Federico Chiesa and Wataru Endo could not even be registered for the Champions League. Liverpool's homegrown issues need a fix This lack of English and homegrown players is hurting Liverpool's recruitment ability. Normally a Premier League club who has a few England internationals in its squad and plays England eligible players, would be guaranteed four ESC spots in their squad. ESC spots can be given to those players who do not qualify for a work-permit post-Brexit but who are recognised as exceptional talents. Right now because Liverpool didn't play enough English players last season, the Reds have only one ESC spot which was given to Mor Talla Ndiaye. It's why Ifeanyi Ndukwe had to be loaned out. This is another problem on top of squad registration issues that needs a fix and the solution is of course to buy more homegrown players. Liverpool looking to sign Tyrick Mitchell Well it looks like the Reds could soon be bringing in another England international. Football Insider claims that Liverpool might be looking for a left-back next summer and with Mitchell out of contract at Crystal Palace he could be coming to the Reds on a free transfer with the club having joined the race to sign him. “When you look at those top clubs, you’ve got Liverpool, where Milos Kerkez has been questioned a bit and maybe isn’t as consistent as they’d like him to be. Then you’ve got Chelsea, who are always going to be interested in this type of deal where they can bring a quality player in without having to spend big. “Either of those clubs could make a move for Mitchell, because as I say, he will tick a number of boxes for them and could be a very good addition," Football Insider's Mick Brown said. Mitchell on a free transfer would make a lot of sense to replace Tsimikas and provide competition for Kerkez. So, this is one to keep an eye on.
