Gabby Thomas, Sha'Carri Richardson lead winners at Athlos London meet

Olympic gold medalists Gabby Thomas and Sha'Carri Richardson won sprints at the season-ending Athlos women's track and field meet in London on Friday night. Thomas, the Olympic 200m champion, clocked 22.13 seconds to win over fellow American Kayla White. "I'm really excited to get back home and get married," said Thomas, who is engaged to Spencer McManes. Richardson, the 2023 World champion and 2024 Olympic silver medalist in the 100m, won that event in 10.80 seconds (with a wind reading of zero, according to a broadcast graphic). "I feel really good," said Richardson, who anchored the 2024 U.S. women's 4x100m to Olympic gold. "I wish it was the beginning of my season instead of the end." Thomas and Richardson were both coming off last weekend's World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest, where fellow American Melissa Jefferson-Wooden swept the 100m (in 10.62 seconds) and the 200m (in 21.47 seconds). 100m hurdles: American Alaysha Johnson in 12.50, edging Nigerian Tobi Amusan by one hundredth. 400m: 2024 Olympic gold medalist Marileidy Paulino of the Dominican Republic in 48.73, clipping Norwegian Henriette Jaeger by five hundredths. 800m: 2024 Olympic gold medalist Keely Hodgkinson of Britain in 1:56.40 while wearing a custom speed suit . Mile: Ultimate 1500m champion Klaudia Kazimierska of Poland in 4:19.43, surging past Brit Georgia Hunter Bell in the final meters. Long Jump: 2026 NCAA champion Alyssa Jones with a 6.66-meter leap in the third and final round after two previous fouls, topping Frenchwoman Hilary Kpatcha by two centimeters. The Athlos meet was created by Alexis Ohanian, the Reddit co-founder who previously invested in women’s sports with the NWSL club Angel City FC. Athlos is derived from the Greek word for athlete. The first two meets in 2024 and 2025 were at New York City's Icahn Stadium. Another meet at Icahn set for this Oct. 2 was announced as canceled on Aug. 28. "Based on feedback from y'all, we now understand it's the hardest possible place to be asking for you to show up at your best, given you've already given everything into a full season and our first meet in London," Ohanian said in announcing the cancellation. "To ask you to do it one more time in New York was a step too far. I take that. I own that." Ohanian said the hope is to have Athlos within the track and field season schedule in 2027, "so that we're complementary to it and well-integrated with it." He said a New York event is already in the planning stages for 2027, plus unnamed "other events."
