Since Trent Alexander-Arnold left the club the Reds have had a real issue with the right side of their defensive department. Alexander-Arnold was so good for so many decades, Liverpool never really had to worry about the position. If anything, his brilliance only forced out very talented players - like Neco Williams for example - who could not get enough game time. After Trent left, his departure has left a gaping void in the squad. Especially because his natural successor Conor Bradley is far too injury prone. Even before suffering his devastating injury against Arsenal last season, Bradley on average has missed around 20 games a season in all competitions. That is not sustainable. Liverpool's temporary solution to the right-back problem Naturally, Liverpool did try to replace Alexander-Arnold. They signed Jeremie Frimpong. But it has become apparent very quickly that he isn't really a natural right-back. Arne Slot and now Andoni Iraola have both opted to play Frimpong further forward. The former's solution was to play Dominik Szoboszlai in the right-back role instead. It's a role the Hungarian did well. However, long-term Szoboszlai clearly sees himself as a midfielder. So, in order to appease him Iraola has come up with a different temporary solution. He's decided to play Ronald Araujo there, who has impressed. But long-term Liverpool will need a new right-back, and it looks like the solution is emerging as we speak. Daniel Banjaqui's performance confirms he's ready to join Liverpool The Portuguese teenager has been linked with the Reds for some time. Anfield Watch understands Pedro Marques is a big admirer of Banjaqui in particular. The 18-year-old has been described as a right-sided Nuno Mendes, who was another player Liverpool desperately tried to sign to no avail. With Banjaqui they cannot do the same thing. The youngster is a phenomenal talent and probably the best right-back prospect around at the moment. He proved that with a sensational performance on his European debut for Benfica earlier this week. Starting against AC Milan at the San Siro, Banjaqui won the most tackles (7) on the pitch and the most duels (10) all while completing 2/3 dribble attempts and making six passes into the opposition's final third. Those numbers alone prove just how incredible of a player he is. He can do it all. And a performance like that at the San Siro confirms he's ready to step-up and join Liverpool.
