Jenkins earns managerless Glentoran vital win

Irish Premiership Cliftonville 1 - 2 Glentoran FT Jordan Jenkins came off the bench to earn managerless Glentoran a much-needed 2-1 win at Cliftonville. Jack Malone, who would pick up a red card with three minutes to go, headed the Glens in front in the 15th minute before Dean McMaster's third free-kick goal of the season levelled matters on 33 minutes. The Reds wasted several opportunities in the second half to edge in front, with Shaun Leppard going closest when he rattled a volley off the crossbar. It was to prove costly as Jenkins struck the winner on 83 minutes to give Glentoran only their fourth league win of the season, and bring a difficult week for the Oval outfit to a close. Glens edge Reds in entertaining encounter There was added spice going into the game after Jim Magilton had turned down an approach by the Glens to take over the Oval hot-seat following Declan Devine's departure. Tim McCann and Paddy McCourt took charge of Glentoran once again and they handed goalkeeper Andrew Mills a recall for this one, with the stopper called into action in the first minute as he tipped over a wayward header from one of his own defenders from a Ben Quinn free-kick. PJ Morrison produced an excellent save to deny Ben Gallagher on 12 minutes after he had created space to get his shot away in the penalty area. There was little the Reds stopper could do to prevent his side falling behind three minutes later as Ross Clarke latched onto a poor defensive header by Leppard before lifting the ball towards the back post for Malone to head home. Cliftonville should have drawn themselves level before the half hour mark as Ethan Brown got caught dallying on the ball and Quinn sent Liam McStravick racing away on goal, but his shot was blocked by Mills. The Glens keeper was nothing but a spectator as the Reds drew themselves level in the 33rd minute thanks to another delightful McMaster free-kick. The former St Mirren youngster curled home from the edge of the box after Brian Healy had been upended by Malone. It was end-to-end stuff in the second half as Cliftonville twice went close to getting back in front before the hour mark as Rory Hale stung Mills' hands with a powerful effort before Healy lobbed over after nicking the ball off Marcus Kane. Quinn was then denied by Mills after Hale had slipped the forward in with a clever pass which cut open the Glens defence. The Reds continued to knock on the door and were inches away from a second on 64 minutes a Leppard crashed a volley off the bar from McMaster's corner before Rhyss Campbell headed the rebound over. Morrison reacted well to deflect away a close range effort from Clarke as the visitors went close on 73 minutes. Ten minutes later the Glens did grab a second as Jenkins reacted quickest to fire home from close range after Cliftonville failed to deal with a corner. There was to be more drama though as Glentoran were reduced to 10-men on 87 minutes as Malone picked up a second yellow for a foul on Hale, but Glentoran held on for a morale-boosting victory.
