Scott Sinclair has urged Celtic’s £11 million summer signing Kasper Høgh to respond to criticism after a difficult start in Scotland. The former Celtic winger spoke to STV Sport about the pressure facing the 25-year-old forward, who arrived from Norwegian club Bodø/Glimt. He has failed to score in his other five competitive appearances, while his record includes no assists. Sinclair believes the substantial transfer fee has created immediate expectations. Celtic fans expect their main striker to score regularly, rather than produce goals sporadically. He said the forward must accept that criticism comes with representing Scotland’s biggest club. Despite the concerns, Sinclair backed the striker’s ability to recover. He said: “I think that’s what comes with the price tag. “I think when you come in for that money, you’ve got to hit the ground running. And also, the fans expect you to be scoring every single week, not just now and then.” He continued: “This is the pressure of playing for Celtic. And when you’re not scoring and not doing as well as the fans would like, they’re going to let you know.” Despite Hogh’s current struggle to find the back of the net, Sinclair remains confident in his ability to overcome this challenging period. “With his stature and the player he is, I’m sure he will overcome that and make sure he keeps scoring goals and keeps creating chances,” he said. “The main thing is the team winning games, and if he can help that, I’m sure he’ll get the fans back onside. His physical presence, aerial ability and movement inside the penalty area give Celtic valuable options. Yet a static role could restrict those qualities, particularly against organised defensive lines. At Bodø/Glimt, he operated within a fluid attacking system that encouraged diagonal runs into channels. Celtic could recreate some of those conditions by using quicker wide service and asking wingers to attack spaces around him. A dynamic front two could provide another answer. A second forward would occupy defenders, create passing lanes and reduce the number of isolated physical battles Høgh faces. Advanced midfielders could then attack the spaces he opens. How can Celtic help the £11m signing recover? Celtic should prioritise early, low crosses into dangerous areas rather than relying exclusively on high balls. Those deliveries could suit Høgh’s movement and give him clearer opportunities to attack the six-yard box. The team should encourage him to press aggressively after losing possession. Winning the ball near the opposition penalty area would create chances before defenders organise themselves. Martin O’Neill must consider the psychological pressure, too. Sinclair’s comments underline the scrutiny attached to the fee, but public criticism cannot replace a tactical solution. Høgh needs regular opportunities, clear responsibilities and support from teammates.
