Bellingham 7.5, Mbappe 5.0 | Atletico Madrid 2-1 Real Madrid: Player ratings
Bellingham 7.5, Mbappe 5.0 | Atletico Madrid 2-1 Real Madrid: Player ratings Real Madrid lost the first Madrid derby of the season, going down 2-1 to Atletico Madrid at the RiyadhAir Metropolitano. Goals from Alejandro Grimaldo and Jonathan David won the match for the hosts, with Antonio Rudiger scoring a consolation for Jose Mourinho’s side. Player ratings Thibaut Courtois – 7.5/10 Had it not been for Courtois, Real Madrid would have been on the end of a mauling. He could do little about the two Atleti goals, but he made a number of top saves to stop the hosts from scoring four or five. Denzel Dumfries – 6.5/10 Dumfries offered very little in attack, but in defence, it was arguably his best performance in a Real Madrid shirt. He nullified the dangerous Alex Baena very well, and Mourinho will hope that he can build on this, despite the disappointment of the derby defeat. Ibrahima Konate – 6/10 Konate had a tough afternoon. He was not as solid as usual in defence, and he was poor with the ball at his feet – although he did make a goal-saving clearance to stop a third goal going in. Dean Huijsen – 4/10 Huijsen had been one of Real Madrid’s better players up until he blew the match away with a poor moment. He cynically brought down Giuliano Simeone inside the penalty area, and given that he was the last man and he did not try to play the ball, it was inevitable that he would be sent off. Marc Cucurella – 4.5/10 Cucurella had his worst performance in a Real Madrid jersey. He was regularly beaten by Giuliano, providing little security in defence. He will hope to put this behind him quickly. Federico Valverde – 5/10 Real Madrid had absolutely no control in the centre of the park, as they allowed Atleti to control proceedings throughout. Valverde tried his best, but he was way off it. Aurelien Tchouameni – 5/10 Like Valverde, he tried to make a difference, but he was very lacking. It’s clear that the two of them are not a good pairing at this stage. Arda Guler – 5/10 Guler has been excellent this season, but he was anonymous in this one. It wasn’t a surprise that he was one of the first players to be replaced. Jude Bellingham – 7.5/10 Bellingham was comfortably Real Madrid’s best player. In the first half, he was head and shoulders above everyone else, snapping into challenges and starting attacks, but he fell out of the game when Huijsen was sent off, understandably so. Vinicius Junior – 5/10 It’s another match where Vinicius has been ineffective. He will hope that he can use the international break to get back into form, but right now, nothing is going his way. Kylian Mbappe – 5/10 Mbappe was kept quiet by Atleti’s defence. There was a couple of good moments, but ultimately, it was his poorest performance of the season. Substitutes Yan Diomande – 6.5/10 He was Real Madrid’s best attacking threat, despite only coming on in the 54th minute. Antonio Rudiger – 6.5/10 Came on due to Huijsen’s red card, and he gave Real Madrid some hope late on with an excellent headed goal. Eduardo Camavinga – 6/10 Tried his best. Bernardo Silva – 6.5/10 Produced an excellent delivery for Rudiger to score.
