The preliminary test was carried out by the Milan Local Police using a saliva swab with no legal validity, but led officers to order a blood sample to be taken in hospital. Full examinations carried out last week highlighted that Maldini was found “below the cut-off limit”, so, as reported by Gazzetta, the Public Prosecutor’s Office indicated that the results were “not compatible” with driving under the influence of drugs. Maldini, 24, has scored three goals in Cagliari’s first five Serie A games of the season and has earned a call-up to the Italy national team for upcoming Nations League games.
