York sign injured prop English for 2027

Matty English made 157 appearances for Huddersfield Giants [SWPix] York Knights have signed prop Matty English on a deal for the 2027 season. The 28-year-old had initially joined from Huddersfield Giants on loan earlier this season but suffered a serious knee injury just days after signing. English was set to be out of contract at Huddersfield following the end of the 2026 campaign, with the Super League club not offering him a new contract. "It wasn't the start I could have hoped for but I am doing everything I can to make sure I come back stronger than before," he said. "Seeing how passionate the fans are and how together this group of lads are, is making me even more excited to get out on that field and push for silverware." English came through Huddersfield's academy and has spent 10 seasons with the club. Having made his debut for the Giants in 2017, he has made a total of 157 appearances. Head coach Mark Applegarth added: "It was very unfortunate for Matty that he got injured coming on loan. We signed Matty with a long-term vision and we think he'll be a big part of York moving forward. "He's due back the first two or three months of the season starting, so what a boost that'll be."
