PSG backed Eupen enjoying strong start to Challenger Pro League season Over the summer, Eupen were officially brought into the PSG sphere of influence. Eupen have for many years been in partnership with Aspire in Qatar, but this summer the club forged much stronger links with PSG. Just a few days ago, PSG made their acquisition of Eupen official. Three seasons ago, the side were relegated from the Belgian Pro League. Yet this year, under Felice Mazzu , the side from the small German speaking region of Belgium look set to seriously challenge for a return to the top flight. After finishing 10th in their first season back in the second tier of Belgian football, Eupen ended the 2025/2026 campaign in seventh. This season, they have started much better and are going into the international break hot on the heels of the sides in the top two. As a reminder, only one side, not two, wins automatic promotion to the Pro League this season. The rest of the top five have to battle it out in the play-offs. With five games gone, Eupen sit in third, although they have a game in hand on both Dender and Beerschot at the top of the table. The gap is only three points, so a win would send Eupen to the summit. The side have only lost one of their five games, with 11 goals scored and five conceded. Despite their links to PSG, there has not been an influx of players from Paris. While PSG have other the past years sent players out on loan to Eupen, this season no one has swapped the Ligue 1 side for the Belgian second tier. Instead, new signings like Chris-Kevin Nadje have added impetus to a side managed by Mazzu, a coach with a decent track record in the second tier of Belgian football. Nadje, who signed from Feyenoord, has scored twice, while the once highly rated Ghanaian forward Isaac Nuhu has one goal and two assists to his name. Many will be wondering if, should Eupen be up there still by January, PSG might send a few players their way to help them in the run in. It would certainly benefit PSG having a link to a Belgian side in the top flight that can develop players. Monaco and Cercle Brugge have been able to make this successful in recent years, while in past season Metz and RFC Seraing had reasonable success with this set up. However, Eupen may well prefer not to be too reliant on PSG when looking at Seraing. As soon as Metz pulled out of the partnership, the side from Liege have struggled in the second tier over the past few seasons. After the international break, Eupen face a struggling Anderlecht Futures side.
