Bompastor pleased with Chelsea’s victory against Birmingham City Chelsea head coach Sonia Bompastor was pleased with her side’s performance as they recorded 2-0 victory over Birmingham City at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon. Goals from Lexi Potter and Melvine Malard secured The Blues’ second league win of the season. When speaking to the media after the match, Chelsea boss Bompastor stated that she was pleased with the performance and result. “Probably, we all were thinking about our first opening game here [being held by Aston Villa],” Bompastor said. “I’m really pleased with the performance again. We dominated and controlled the game for the most part of the 90 minutes. “We probably lost a little bit of control starting the second half in the first 10 or 15 minutes, but we scored an early goal and started strong. I think we could’ve been winning 2-0 or 3-0 at half-time, because we created enough. “With Melvine [Malard], we were able to score the second goal and it was a real relief because when you score the second goal, you can manage the game in a different way. I’m pleased with the performance and the result at the end.” Youngster Potter, who scored her first goal at Stamford Bridge, worked well alongside an experienced player in Keira Walsh. Bompastor was pleased with that particular combination. She said “I think they have a great connection together. They understand each other, they know where they are, so it’s really good. I think they are both really strong and confident in the role.” Bompastor’s side will now turn their attention towards a home UEFA Women’s Champions League tie against Austria Vienna on Wednesday evening. Previewing that fixture, the Chelsea boss discussed how she hopes the weekend’s result will support confidence. She said “It’s always easy to do it when you win the games to stay confident for sure, but that’s a different competition, we know this competition is very difficult. “We are starting at home, so hopefully getting a good result this weekend will bring a boost in confidence.” Chelsea’s UEFA Women’s Champions League tie against Austria Vienna kicks-off at 8pm on Wednesday evening.
