Two seasons at Bayern Munich Flick began his Bayern Munich tenure in November 2019, taking temporary charge after Niko Kovac was dismissed. His first season was extraordinary. His spell in Munich therefore lasted less than two complete seasons. Two years with Germany Only a few weeks after leaving Bayern, Flick was appointed as Joachim Low’s successor as Germany head coach. He officially took charge in September 2021, but his time with the national team also lasted only around two years. On 10 September 2023, Flick was dismissed following a heavy defeat to Japan. His third year had therefore barely begun when Germany decided to part company with him. That makes his current spell with Barcelona a significant milestone. Flick has now gone beyond the two-year mark by several weeks and, barring a major change in circumstances, is expected to complete the 2026/27 season at the Spotify Camp Nou. He also embraced the club’s footballing philosophy despite arriving during a difficult financial period. After two full seasons, eight fixtures in his third campaign, Flick has already overseen a remarkable period for the club, with five trophies won. The major objective for his third season is now clear: finally bringing the UEFA Champions League back to Barcelona after falling short during his first two campaigns. Only Hoffenheim lasted longer There is one longer spell on Flick’s managerial CV. At the beginning of the 2000s, he spent five seasons managing Hoffenheim. However, the club were playing in Germany’s third tier at the time, making it a very different environment from the elite, high-pressure positions he has since held at Barcelona, Bayern and Germany. As such, Barcelona have now become Flick’s longest project at the highest level. And with the 2026/27 campaign already producing records for both the team and individual players, the German coach has reached a point in his career that he had never previously experienced at a club of this scale.
