Former France manager Didier Deschamps may take a sabbatical Didier Deschamps’ contract as manager of the France national team expired two months ago, upon the conclusion of Les Bleus FIFA World Cup campaign, however, despite wanting a return to management, he is in no rush, as per a report from L’Équipe . Deschamps spent 14 years as France manager, winning the World Cup in 2018, leading them to the final in 2022, and then to the semi-final last summer. Speaking pre-tournament in an interview with The Guardian, he announced an ambition to continue managing. He wouldn’t rule out any positions, including managing another national team. He had been linked with the Italy job, as well as the vacancy at Real Madrid, and various posts in the Middle East. None of those options became concrete and, in any case, he didn’t want to resolve his future while still manager of Les Bleus, which did occlude some possibilities. L’Équipe understands that, currently, Deschamps is resting, between his first residence in Cap d’Ail, on the border of Monaco, and up in Brittany, where he has a second residence. Deschamps will not return to management before November at the earliest and may take a whole-season sabbatical.
