‘It is nice to see many new faces on the team’: Ajax goalkeeper Marc ter Stegen happy to be back with Germany Marc ter Stegen is enjoying a return to international football. The Ajax goalkeeper, on loan from Barcelona, was speaking to the media ahead of Germany’s clash with the Netherlands which, ironically, will take place at ter Stegen’s new home. Ter Stegen left Barcelona this summer to move to Amsterdam and has also returned to the Germany set up under their new head coach Jürgen Klopp. The 34-year-old said ‘ It is always something special for me to be back here. Especially because there was also a time when things didn’t go as I had imagined. When my body didn’t cooperate. That is why I can appreciate this even more now; it is the result of a lot of hard work. It is nice to see many new faces on the team, and to simply give everything again for the national team and hopefully be successful’ . Since making the move to Ajax, ter Stegen has played eight games, with two clean sheets. After a 2-2 draw with surprise package Excelsior at the weekend, Ajax sit fifth in the table under new head coach Michel, with four wins from seven games, two draws and one defeat. Having only played three games for both Barcelona and Girona (on loan) last season, a return to regular football is welcomed by ter Stegen and has been a factor in his call up by Klopp to the German national team.
