English wonderkid is coming to replace Florian Wirtz An exciting wonderkid is coming to oust Florian Wirtz from Liverpool's starting line-up. The Reds have invested a lot of money in the German working out at Anfield. Wirtz arrived as the solution to Liverpool's lack of creativity without Trent Alexander-Arnold. He was the player who was supposed to take a Premier League title winning team to the next phase. Wirtz was the trigger point for Liverpool's evolution. The Reds beat Manchester City and Bayern Munich to his signature. Wirtz wanted Liverpool. He wanted to link-up with Alexander Isak and co. to form one of the most terrifying attacks on paper. But what's happened since then, has been nothing but disappointing. Wirtz has not lived up to the hype nor his big money price tag. Why it's all going wrong for Florian Wirtz at Liverpool The conversation that surrounds Wirtz has been very reactionary and a little out of context. So many are accusing Wirtz of struggling to fit into English football. Some are concerned he just doesn't suit the intensity of the Premier League. But the reality is a lot more different. Wirtz just isn't being used in the role that best suits him. At Bayer Leverkusen, the team was built around him. At Liverpool, it's not. The two double pivots at Leverkusen were Aleix Garcia and Granit Xhaka - both players who sat deep and looked to play the ball through the lines to Wirtz. At Liverpool, Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch are more ball carriers, who look to occupy similar spaces to Wirtz. This ends-up creating a disconnect and Wirtz not getting the ball in the areas where he thrives. This is the main issue, Liverpool are going to have to fix. Why Josh Sonni-Lambie could be coming to take Wirtz's place The question in this situation, and one that Andoni Iraola is going to have to ask is maybe Liverpool don't need Wirtz's creativity in that no.10 position, but rather they should bring in a goal-scorer instead. It's what Iraola did at Bournemouth, often playing Eli Junior Kroupi as the no.10. It's why the club's scouts are now keeping a close eye on Paris Brunner. And it's why Josh Sonni-Lambie could be under serious consideration very soon. The English youth international is a very similar profile to Kroupi and he's also in great form. Sonni-Lambie has three goals in his last four matches for the Reds' U21 and U21 side. It looks like he is carrying on his form from U18 level last season, and at this rate he could just be coming to replace Wirtz very soon.
