In a recent report , journalist Graeme Bailey revealed that Manchester City are in the running to land Feyenoord full-back Givairo Read. It is believed that the Mancunian club are locked in a three-way battle with Arsenal and Liverpool in the race to sign the Dutch defender next year. Read has caught the eye with his performances on the right side of Feyenoord’s defence in this campaign so far. The 20-year-old has secured five assists in eight appearances for the Dutch club this season across various competitions. The Dutch talent is currently among the most gifted young full-backs in the Dutch Eredivisie. Hence, it is no surprise that Man City are in the race to land him next year. His current contract at the Mancunian club will run out in the summer of 2029, which could make it tough for the Mancunian club to sign him on the cheap this winter or at the end of this season. He usually puts his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot and is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet. The Dutch sensation has the vision to engineer some decent chances for his teammates from the right flank and can chip in by picking up his fair share of assists. Read is primarily a right-back but can also serve as a left-back if asked to do so. However, there are some concerns over whether he can make a smooth transition to life in the Premier League if Man City manage to bring him on board in 2027. Read would improve the quality of Enzo Maresca’s defence in the long run. He has what it takes to compete for a regular first-team spot at the Etihad Stadium in the coming years. At 20, Read has the potential to be a world-class player in his position someday. Hence, Maresca should focus on snapping him up this January or next summer.
