With another dynamic attacking option back, Manchester City should be even more dangerous in the final third Unfortunately for Jeremy Doku and Manchester City, the Belgian winger had a delayed start to the 2026-27 season. Doku suffered a calf injury in Manchester City’s 3-0 FA Community Shield defeat to Arsenal. The Belgian international missed the first six matches that City played due to the injury. Doku returned to action for the final 15 minutes of Manchester City’s 5-3 win over Sunderland last Sunday . In the time he was on the pitch, Doku showed that he will make the City attack an even more dangerous proposition for their opponents. Jeremy Doku added another dimension to the Manchester City attack against Sunderland. Enzo Maresca brought on Jeremy Doku for Iliman Ndiaye in the 75th minute of Manchester City’s 5-3 win over Sunderland. Doku immediately made an impact on the match and helped City secure a valuable three points. It was Doku who played Josko Gvardiol in on City’s left-hand side to set up Erling Haaland to score Manchester City’s fifth goal of the match at the Etihad with a sublime through ball. He also teed up Nico O’Reilly with a similar type of ball from the left which should have made it 6-3. In 15 minutes, in a game that suited him, Doku reminded everyone of what Manchester City had missed in his absence. Jeremy Doku is a completely different type of winger to Iliman Ndiaye, Antoine Semenyo, Phil Foden or Allan. Doku thrives in one-on-one situations with his pace, trickery and directness. In truth, Doku should thrive in Enzo Maresca’s system. The fact that he has barely featured this season and Manchester City have been so lethal in the final third is a testament to how good Manchester City’s attack is. Adding a fully fit Jeremy Doku to the equation should lift Manchester City’s attacking play up another gear. There is no reason that it shouldn’t as Doku is arguably City’s most dangerous winger as his rise during the 2025-26 season illustrated. Over the international break Jeremy Doku has the opportunity to rest which will be huge for him. Due to injury, Jeremy Doku was not included in the Belgian squad for the current international break. Instead, Doku will now have a period of rest. Simon Bajkowski reported for the Manchester Evening News that Doku, Matheus Nunes, Phil Foden, Allan and Rico Lewis will now have two weeks off. It is expected that the group of City players who weren’t selected for their countries will keep themselves fit while resting over the international break. In the case of Doku, that time to rest could be invaluable. Calf injuries can be troublesome ailments to recover from. Especially for a player as explosive as Jeremy Doku. Two weeks off should give Doku the opportunity to fully recover from the injury that saw him miss Manchester City’s first six matches of the season. Manchester City will certainly be hoping that this is the case. Enzo Maresca’s side needs Doku back fully fit. He is a game-breaker that Manchester City need fit and firing. Hopefully, a period of rest sets Doku up to hit the ground running when club football returns. Manchester City haven’t been able to call upon Jeremy Doku to begin the 2026-27 season. He returned against Sunderland and in the 15 minutes he was on the pitch he was superb and helped his team make it seven wins from seven in all competitions. Doku adds another dimension to Manchester City’s attacking play. If he can stay fit Enzo Maresca’s side may become infinitely harder for their opponents to contain. That would be ideal as City will need a plethora of attacking options and variety to navigate what comes after the extended international break.
