New report confirms length of Arteta’s new Arsenal contract Mikel Arteta’s new contract is set to last for the next four years, according to a report, with his backroom staff to extend for the same period. Photo by Stu Forster/Getty Images Fabrizio Romano reports that Mikel Arteta’s new contract agreement with Arsenal is valid for the next four years, presumably tying him down until June 2030. Romano confirms that Arteta will receive a pay increase, and adds that the official announcement could be any moment. But the verbal agreement is done. The same source also reports that Arteta’s backroom staff will all sign new contracts for the same four years. Photo by Justin Setterfield/Getty Images Sami Mokbel had broken the news for the BBC on Tuesday that Arteta had agreed a new contract, to bring to an end negotiations that had been ongoing for a number of months. Mokbel claimed Arteta and Arsenal had reached a final agreement on a new deal, which would include a sharp pay increase on his current salary of £10m per year plus bonuses. Arteta’s current deal expires in 2027, so time was definitely running out to sort a new one. Photo by Justin Setterfield/Getty Images The manager’s old contract included £5m in bonuses for Champions League qualification, which has been no trouble for Arteta’s Arsenal in recent seasons. It will be interesting to learn whether his new deal sets a new goal, or whether Champions League qualification remains the key target. Such a bonus does make financial sense, as qualifying for the Champions League boosts the club’s finances and makes paying the bonus much easier. Arteta has won the Premier League, the FA Cup, and three Community Shields with Arsenal, as well as taking the Gunners to their second-ever Champions League final.
