Tottenham Hotspur Are Facing Stiff Competition For This Talented Defender: One For The Future? In a recent report , Portal do Gremista stated that Tottenham Hotspur are facing stiff competition for Gremio defender Viery. It has been mentioned that Spurs would have to rival Sunderland, Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest, Brighton and Hove Albion, Benfica and Fiorentina in the race to land the Brazilian centre-back in this summer transfer window. Viery’s Impressive Rise In Brazilian Football The 21-year-old came through the youth ranks of Gremio and did well to establish himself as an important member of their senior team. Viery participated in 27 matches for the Brazilian club last season, scoring two goals and securing one assist across all fronts. The Brazilian talent is currently among the best young centre-backs in his homeland. Therefore, Spurs would do well to lure him to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this off-season. His current contract at Gremio will run out at the end of 2029, which could make it tough for Tottenham to land him on a cut-price deal in this transfer window. Viery is a good tackler of the ball and can sense the danger well to secure possession back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when required and can even play his way out from inside his half. Standing at 1.87m, the Brazilian sensation is a strong presence in the air as well. Viery is primarily a centre-back but can also serve as a left-back if asked to do so. However, only time will tell whether he can adapt to the high intensity of the Premier League if Spurs manage to snap him up later this year. We can expect Viery to enhance the quality of Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi’s defence in the long run. He is already good enough to serve as a good rotational piece in the North London club’s squad. At 21, the future looks quite promising for Viery as long as he continues to improve with each season. He is undoubtedly a prospect to watch out for in the future, so Spurs should focus on securing his services this summer. However, De Zerbi has to be patient with his development before he can get the best out of the gifted centre-back.
