He had been a free agent since 1 July, when the five-year contract he signed at Real Madrid in 2021 expired. It is his first move to Italy. Alaba came through at SV Aspern and Austria Vienna before joining Bayern Munich in 2008, spending 13 years in Bavaria with a loan spell at Hoffenheim in 2010-11.
