Newcastle United goalkeeper Borg signs first professional deal Newcastle United goalkeeper Sofia Borg has signed her first professional contract with the club. WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Magpies earlier today. The 18-year-old stopper is the second young player to agree professional terms with Newcastle United this week. Borg joined the Newcastle United academy last season from the Football West Academy in her native Australia. The youngster has continued her development on Tyneside and now finds herself on the fringes of the first team squad. Borg is yet to make her senior debut for The Magpies but she has regularly been a part of the first team group. The keeper has a big future ahead of her and Newcastle United have therefore moved to agree professional terms with the player. After signing professional terms with The Magpies, Borg said “This means a lot, not just for me, but for my family as well. Newcastle is such a big name in football, and I think for the short amount of time I’ve been here, it’s been incredible. “My goals now are just about developing as a goalkeeper and playing as much football as I can and continue to be the best goalkeeper that I can be.” Borg will now continue her development with a view to pushing for first team honours.
