Eastleigh sign ex-Wales international Williams

National League side Eastleigh have signed former Wales midfielder Jonny Williams on a deal until the end of the season. The 32-year-old most recently spent three years in League Two with Gillingham, where he made 106 appearances in all competitions and scored three goals. Williams started his career at Crystal Palace and played in the Premier League before multiple loan spells in the Championship, including with Ipswich Town, Nottingham Forest and Sunderland. He signed for Palace's south London rivals Charlton Athletic in 2018 before moving to Cardiff City in February 2021 and then Swindon Town six months later. During his career, Williams has scored 23 goals in 403 club appearances, while he has also been capped 33 times by Wales, netting twice at international level. Williams played at Euro 2016 during Wales' famous run to the semi-final of the tournament. He was in the Wales squads for Euro 2020 and the 2022 World Cup but was an unused substitute. Eastleigh are 12th in the National League after nine games, one point outside the play-off places, and they visit Harrogate Town in their next match on Saturday.
