Bristol Rovers chase club history with 11th home win

Bristol Rovers want to make history said manager Steve Evans as they look to set a new club record of 11 consecutive home victories when they play Exeter City on Saturday. The Gas have not lost at the Memorial Stadium in the league since a 3-2 defeat against Chesterfield on 7 February with their impressive run starting against Grimsby later that month. Manager Steve Evans said if they do beat the Grecians the players and staff will celebrate after the full-time whistle in the stadium bar. "We want to make history for our supporters and if we make history we're not going to go back in the dressing room, we're going to go in the Thatchers Bar, players and staff," he told BBC Radio Bristol. "We're all going to go in, it's not often in football you get the opportunity at a club that's been going since 1883 to make history. "We're going to join the people that are the real owners of this football club, but to do that we have to win." Evans committed to Bristol Rovers amid Hibs links Evans took charge of Bristol Rovers in December last year and has largely transformed the fortunes of the club in that time. The club have won 18 of 36 games in all competitions under the Scot, who last week brushed off speculation linking him with the vacant managerial position at Hibernian. The 1-0 victory over Rotherham on 5 September equalled Bristol Rovers' home record of 10 consecutive league wins, set twice before in April 1935 and August 2016. Yet Evans said he wants to be the man to oversee a team that takes the record outright. "We want to be unique, I want to be the manager in 50, 60 years time where another manager is sitting in this chair wanting to break my record," he added. "I've equalled it but I'm one of three at the minute, I want to be one of one." Bristol Rovers go into the game however off the back of consecutive losses on the road away to Grimsby and Gillingham. They will also be without defender Riley Harbottle for six or seven weeks after having an operation on a hamstring tear.
