Free agent Lewis returns to Newport

Midfielder or defender Lewis, 28, returns to his native south Wales three years after leaving the Exiles to join Mansfield. A former Swansea City youngster, Lewis had spells at Doncaster Rovers and Lincoln City before first joining Newport on loan from the Imps in 2020. After signing a permanent deal in 2021, Lewis played a total of 102 Newport games – and scored four goals – before joining Mansfield. He made 133 appearances and scored five times for the Stags, with whom he won promotion from the fourth tier in 2023-24. Lewis, who could feature when Newport host Grimsby Town on Saturday, said he first spoke to the League Two club about a potential return in the summer. "Obviously I know the club, the fans, everything like that, I know what this club's all about," Lewis told the Newport website.
