Arsenal summer signing tells media he came to be a champion Bruno Guimaraes has told the media he wants to be a champion with Arsenal, as he kicks off the international break with Brazil. Photo by Shaun Botterill/Getty Images Bruno Guimaraes completed a summer transfer from Newcastle United to Arsenal last month, and he’s had a generally positive start to life with his new club. The primary negative so far has been a couple of minor injury setbacks, but those were perhaps to be expected given the midfielder’s late start to pre-season. When Guimaraes has been available, things have largely gone well, with the obvious exception of the last game against Brighton and Hove Albion . Before that, he’d been on the winning side in all five of his appearances, and he was particularly impactful in the win away to Sunderland . Photo by Stu Forster/Getty Images Speaking to the media whilst on international duty with Brazil, Guimaraes reflected on his transfer and his ambitious goals with his new club. “I was already almost five years at [Newcastle United] and felt inside me that I needed a new challenge,” Guimaraes said . “Starting my career at Arsenal, already starting well, in the right direction, it’s like I said – a new responsibility. “I really wanted to take this step. I am very happy and excited about the new challenges. “I just want to win with Arsenal. So I’m very focused. I want to be champion. I want to make my story with this new shirt.” Photo by Elsa/Getty Images Guimaraes has kicked off the international break with Brazil, making a start for his country in a friendly match against Australia on Friday. The midfielder was substituted in the 62nd minute with the scores at 0-0, and though Australia did go on to open the scoring moments later, the match finished 1-1. Unlike most national teams with Arsenal players over the extended break, Brazil are only playing three matches, rather than four. The downside is that they’ve had to travel the entire way around the world to Australia, but the upside is that they’ll be done with their games by next Saturday.
