Barcelona loanee starting to convince Liverpool over €55m permanent transfer – report Ronald Araujo’s future at Barcelona is becoming increasingly uncertain after his impressive start to life at Liverpool, with the defender now giving the Premier League club a genuine reason to consider making his loan move permanent. According to Mundo Deportivo , Liverpool are becoming increasingly convinced by the Uruguayan, who joined on loan from Barcelona until the end of the season.  Notably, the agreement includes a €55 million option to buy , meaning the final decision will remain with the English club. For now, though, Araujo is doing everything possible to make that decision a difficult one. Araujo’s versatility has changed his role at Liverpool Araujo has featured seven times since arriving at Anfield, starting five of those matches.  What stands out is not just his involvement, but the different positions in which his manager Andoni Iraola has been willing to use him. The Uruguayan initially operated in his natural position at centre-back, starting Premier League fixtures against Newcastle and Nottingham Forest. His role then expanded considerably. That flexibility could prove particularly important when Liverpool assess whether to spend €55 million on him next summer. Araujo arrived in England looking for regular football and a chance to rebuild his position after an uncertain period at Barcelona.  Instead of simply filling a squad role, he has become someone Iraola can move around the defensive line depending on the opposition and circumstances. Liverpool now have a decision to make on Araujo The €55 million clause does not force Liverpool to complete the transfer, and Barcelona retain Araujo under contract until 2031.  That gives the Catalan club a strong contractual position if the English side eventually decides against activating the option. That is significant because a successful loan was always going to depend on Araujo getting minutes.  Barcelona need to know whether Liverpool see him as a long-term signing, while the player himself needs clarity over where his future lies. Barcelona could face a major decision Araujo’s contract situation means Barcelona do not have to rush into a decision, but Liverpool’s growing appreciation of the defender could eventually make the €55 million option increasingly relevant. The early signs are certainly encouraging for Liverpool, as seven appearances have given Iraola enough evidence to use Araujo in multiple defensive roles, while the defender has responded to the opportunity with a strong adaptation to English football. If that continues over the course of the season, Liverpool could move from having an option to buy Araujo to seriously considering whether he should become a permanent part of their squad. And if that happens, Barcelona might opt to sign a new centre-back in the summer of 2027.
