The Red Devils have won just two of their seven matches across all competitions and currently sit 12th in the Premier League standings . But despite the results, Carrick retains the backing of the United dressing room, per The Sun . The players reportedly accept much of the responsibility for the poor start to the season. Carrick deserves more time United appointed Carrick as permanent head coach after he impressed in his interim role. Results have been poor since, but the club’s hierarchy also deserve blame for not backing him in the transfer market. They refused to pay a premium fee for their primary midfield targets and missed out on Elliot Anderson and Mateus Fernandes. Tyrell Malacia left Old Trafford as a free agent at the end of last season, leaving Luke Shaw as their only recognised senior left-back. United decided not to strengthen that position, despite Shaw’s poor injury record. Benjamin Sesko has been impressive since joining from RB Leipzig last summer. But with the club competing in the Champions League this season, they should have added another striker to share the goalscoring burden with Sesko. It is still early in the season and Carrick deserves more time to turn things around.
