Karim Adeyemi talks Barcelona move, Flick, Gordon competition: ‘Honoured to be at this club’ When Karim Adeyemi joined Barcelona for a deal worth €22 million, it seemed like quite the bargain for the Blaugrana . One month into the new season, Adeyemi has certainly proved himself more than a bargain , with the forward racking up six goal involvements in eight matches, scoring a few bangers in the process. Currently part of the German national team fold under Jurgen Klopp, Adeyemi recently sat down with AS , where he talked about life in Barcelona, competition with other attackers in the team, as well as Hansi Flick, among other things. On settling in Barcelona The German admitted that while he feels good, his adaptation is still very much a work in progress. “ I think it’s hard to say. I feel really, really good, but as for everything being settled, I don’t think we’re at that point yet. I’m not completely here yet. The forward revealed how he has been spending his downtime, painting a picture of a quiet, family-oriented life by the sea. “I went to the beach, to the sea, I went swimming. I think it was the most enjoyable thing for me. I still do it from time to time,” he stated. “I like being at home with my family around me. I only go out occasionally. But I like being at home and going to the beach; that’s my peace and what I need for my life.” On his style and blistering pace Adeyemi, who clocked a remarkable 36 km/h against Levante, was asked about the secret of his pace and whether or not he had any athletics background before. “No, never (laughs). I never did athletics. When I was younger, I used to do a lot of backflips and things like that on the trampoline. Beyond that, I’m good at sports in general, but I’ve always only ever played football,” he said. The winger also described his instinctive approach to the game. “Yes, I’d even say it’s pure instinct. My best games are when I’m not thinking about anything on the pitch and the movements just come naturally. I try to create things and hope they work out. But I’m happy for every minute I play, every goal I score, and every victory we achieve. If I can help the team, even better. We want to win everything,” he said. “If he’s happy, I’m happy (laughs). I hope he is. I’ve had a good start, but I always work every day to improve, to contribute more to the team,” he said when asked about his relationship with Flick. He also expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome from supporters. “I have a job here, and I’m truly happy and honoured to be at this club. I’m not a guy who tries to fake a show; I do my thing, I’m authentic, and I’m always honest. The fans’ love is incredible.” On competing with Gordon Finally, Adeyemi addressed his competition with fellow summer signing Anthony Gordon, viewing it as a positive for the team. “I think the best thing is for all the players to believe they can be starters. We have to compete because football is about competition, but we also have to maintain the good atmosphere in the locker room. That’s the most important thing,” he concluded. Both Adeyemi and Gordon have integrated well into the team, offering different qualities that have cumulatively made Barcelona a much more complete attacking side.
