Barcelona not averse to selling €50 million defender amid interest from the Premier League Barcelona spent much of the summer trying to clear out unwanted players from the squad, in a broader effort to trim the salary bill. While the club were able to reduce it significantly through various sales, Barcelona must secure more departures next summer, as the club prepare for yet another stint at the Montjuic next season. Recent reports have indicated that Barcelona already have a few sales planned for next summer, with Jules Kounde one of the players in contention to leave. The Catalans were willing to listen to offers for the former Sevilla centre-back in the summer, btu the player wanted to continue at Camp Nou. Barcelona will soon have a decision to take as Kounde is starting to gain interest from various clubs across Europe. The report clearly states ‘top three’ Premier League teams are interested in his services, while Bayern Munich, too, have been touted as a potential suitor. Interestingly, PSG have not shown any desire to sign the Frenchman. Important few months ahead Christensen’s injury could aid Kounde. Flick has made it clear that Garcia is currently the club’s number one right-back, which has resulted in Kounde starting in only two of the eight matches so far this season. The months ahead, therefore, could be critical as Kounde braces himself for more minutes in light of Andreas Christensen’s injury. Although he might not return to the right-back position, he could be an option for Flick in the left-sided centre-back position, where the performances of Gerard Martin has been inconsistent. If Kounde can make a statement with his performances in the coming matches, his market value is only expected to rise, with Barcelona forecasting a fee of at least €50 million.
