Presidents Cup Sunday results: U.S. tries to rally, cut into Internationals' lead as singles play begins

(Matthew Maxey/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images) Icon Sportswire via Getty Images The United States faces a massive, virtually unprecedented challenge in this year’s Presidents Cup, needing a Sunday rally at Medinah Country Club to retain a Cup that the Americans have owned for almost the entire existence of the event. Prior to this year, the United States had held a 13-1-1 record against the International team, yet now must rally from three points down on Sunday to retain the cup. A combination of bad play, bad luck and bad strategy has put the Americans in this hole. Team captain Brandt Snedeker will be looking to rally the U.S. with a fast start, running out Cameron Young, Wyndham Clark, Justin Thomas and Scottie Scheffler in the first four matches in hopes of gaining some momentum that will inspire the following eight players. International team captain Geoff Ogilvy, meanwhile, scattered his stars throughout his Sunday lineup. The Internationals have proven their resilience over the course of this entire event, rallying over and over to claim multiple points that the United States could have, even should have, won. A score of 15.5 clinches the Presidents Cup, meaning the United States will need to double the score it posted over the first four rounds in order to win. The Internationals, meanwhile, will need to claim only five points over 12 matches to pull off the astounding upset.
