The versatile defender felt discomfort in his left knee and after going through tests, the Spanish team decided to withdraw him from the squad. Garcia is now set to return to Barcelona, likely to undergo further tests so the true extent of his injury can be determined. The Catalans have already lost one centre-back in Andreas Christensen due to injury. Losing Garcia could be an even bigger blow considering the versatility he brings to the table. In fact, Garcia has been acting as Barcelona’s first-choice right-back this season, ahead of Jules Kounde, whose future at Camp Nou appears uncertain amid reports linking him with a move to the Premier League. If Garcia gets ruled out for a few weeks, it would leave Hansi Flick devoid of not only another centre-back but also his primary option in the right-back position. For now, though, nothing has been confirmed and there is a possibility that Garcia’s withdrawal could be a precautionary move.
