It appears the top bosses are content with how the team has performed so far, with the Catalans convinced that Raphinha is capable of maintaining his sensational level throughout the campaign. As a result, the club view that Barcelona do not desperately need to rush into the market for a recognised striker. The seamless nature of Barcelona’s start, scoring goals for fun despite the absence of a traditional forward, has vindicated the club’s decision not to overspend in the summer. Raphinha’s transformation into a false nine has been central to that success, and Hansi Flick’s side look every bit the team to beat in Spain. Sporting director Deco recently declared that “Julian is in the past,” a comment that appeared to signal Barcelona had moved on from the Atletico Madrid striker. However, Romano clarifies that those words do not mean Barcelona have forgotten about the Argentine entirely. Instead, Deco simply wants everyone at the club to focus fully on the current season rather than dwell on a deal that did not materialise. What happens in the future, though, remains to be seen. While Barcelona are thrilled with their attacking options for now, Alvarez remains a player they admired greatly, and a renewed pursuit cannot be ruled out down the line should circumstances change.
