Cody Gakpo injury news, latest update as Liverpool star hurt for Netherlands vs Serbia

Liverpool have another injury to deal with during the international break, as Cody Gakpo came off with an injury issue for the Netherlands against Serbia. Gakpo was subbed off early in the UEFA Nations League game in Serbia on Sunday, as he suffered an injury after being clattered in midfield. The Dutch striker was caught really late by Serbia's Sasa Lukic and there was heavy contact on his lower left leg. With Alexander Isak already going down with an injury for Sweden during the international break and having to return to Liverpool, Andoni Iraola will be hoping the issues aren't serious for either of his key strikers who have both been in excellent form so far this season. Liverpool's first game back after the international break is a huge one, at home against Manchester City on Sunday, October 11. With Hugo Ekitike still out injured, Iraola would have been thinking about starting Gakpo out of position in a central role against City if Isak wasn't fit to start. Now that Gakpo and Isak have both been injured, Liverpool are left with youngster Lewis Koumas as their only fit center forward as things stand. Bradley Barcola could play there if needed, but all of a sudden Liverpool are sweating on the fitness of their two in-form forwards. This has been far from an ideal international break for Liverpool, so far, and not what Iraola needed ahead of a busy time in the Premier League, League Cup and Champions League in the fall.
