Merseyside is red as Liverpool beat Everton at Anfield Liverpool claimed the Merseyside derby bragging rights as they recorded a 2-0 victory over Everton at Anfield this afternoon. Beata Olsson and Cornelia Kapocs got the goals as The Reds ended their poor home derby record. Liverpool opened the scoring after just four minutes through Olsson. The Reds won a corner which was perfectly swung into Olsson. She headed perfectly past visiting keeper Courtney Brosnan. Ornella Vignola then had an attempt at goal for Everton, but her header went over the bar before Kapcos received the ball on the left and managed to work her way nicely into the visitors’ box, but her strike went over. Vignola went close again for Everton when she got a foot to a corner, but the ball went wide. Liverpool almost had a second goal when Natalia Ramos sent the ball flying towards the bottom corner, however, it was pushed away by the gloves of Brosnan. An end-to-end contest then saw Hannah Cain come close to an equaliser, but her effort went just over the crossbar. Ramos tried her luck from range, but once again, Brosnan sprang into action and caught the ball before Rosa van Gool and Ruby Mace failed to trouble home keeper Khiara Keating. Liverpool should have got their second goal when Vivien Endemann took aim, but her effort hit the bar. A second attempt was then caught by Brosnan. Ramos then had another shot from eight yards out, but Mace threw herself in front of the ball and made an incredible block. A Kapocs header was hooked off the line by Mace before the same player swivled and produced a finish four minutes from time to make it 2-0. Liverpool end the weekend in fifth place in the Barclays Women’s Super League table while Everton are sixth.
