Journalist confirms end of an era, Club expected to sign legendary star from Liverpool It seems the end of an era is coming at Liverpool. One journalist confirms that a true legend is expected to sign with a new club. Liverpool have been passing from one era into the next over the last couple of seasons. Jurgen Klopp's group of players has been whittled down to just a select few, with enormous amounts spent to overhaul the squad. Has it made the squad better? It's difficult for anyone to say (absolutely, definitely not). But the process will continue, especially as certain key stars come to the end of their contracts and age out of the range where Liverpool like to renew. And there are a couple of very, very difficult ones coming up. Virgil van Dijk ready to leave Liverpool Italian journalist Carlo Pellegatti claims that Virgil van Dijk is leaving Liverpool. He says that the Dutchman could have signed for AC Milan in the summer but opted not to - but the club expect him to join at some point. That could be next summer, of course. Van Dijk will be out of contract and free to join whoever he pleases. It appears that will be Milan. Liverpool will be in two minds. Their captain is turning 36 next year and won't be getting anything like a long-term contract. We can't be sure they'd want to offer a two-year deal on big wages, even if that was ultimately the correct move in 2025. The Reds may decide to renew, though Pellegatti clearly feels Van Dijk will leave for Milan. “I continue to say that [Milan chairman] Gerry Cardinale made clear: ‘Either we get him now by paying or next year for free.’ I said that Van Dijk will arrive at Milan sooner or later," he told his YouTube channel . “We’ll see if Cardinale changes his mind or not, but I can assure you it was not just a name I pulled out of thin air.” Time will ultimately tell. There's a lot of confidence here, though, and one thing is certain - next year could be the end of Van Dijk at Liverpool.
