Late comeback ends Guernsey FC's winless run

Guernsey FC had not won a game since 22 August [Fran Torode] Guernsey FC manager Tony Vance says his side’s remarkable late comeback at Lancing felt like winning "33 points". The Green Lions had been 2-0 down with 10 minutes left before turning their fortunes around to end a five-game winless run going back more than a month The win lifts Guernsey up to ninth in the Southern Combination Premier Division. “To go 2-2 after 2-0 down you almost want to say 'right okay we'll take that given the situation we're in',” Vance told BBC Radio Guernsey. “But to actually win it 3-2 is fantastic and I think those three points feel like 33 points now.” Vance's side got off to a tough start as Ryan Plummer's second-minute corner flew straight into the Guernsey net. The Green Lions had chances to level - Will Fazakerley had a second-half goal ruled out for offside - but found themselves 2-0 down with 14 minutes left when Antoine Sharpe broke clear and made it 2-0. But Corey Brouard's volleyed in his first goal for Guernsey with 10 minutes left, and two minutes later Jacques Cauvin glanced in a corner to make it 2-2. They with four minutes left Archie Drillot scored his first-ever goal for the club to cap a dramatic comeback. "You've got to earn everything and that last 10-12 minutes they earned the right to get three points and that's amazing, but we've now got to go and do it," added Vance. "Maybe we've got some belief now, there was a little bit of negativity at half time and last week there was some negativity. "So we've got to focus on those positives and have a good week of training and keep working on hopefully the next part of our journey, which is to start putting aside this last month or so where we've been struggling and push on. "But we haven't got a right to win a game of football, this league is proving to be tougher this year than it was last year, so we've simply got to be better and we haven't been, so hopefully we can take that forward now." Green Lionesses still await first win Meanwhile Guernsey FC Women are still searching for their first win of the season after suffering a late 2-1 loss at Millbrook. They slipped into the bottom two of Southern Region Women's Football League Division One South after a second loss in three games. Caitlin Goodwin gave the hosts a first-half lead but Adrienne Leech levelled the scores early in the second half. The hosts hit the crossbar but finally breached the Guernsey defence when a late corner was bundled over the line by Isabelle Turner.
