Odegaard claims Bernardo Silva ‘lost his head’ & never apologised Martin Odegaard and his Norway teammates spoke out strongly against Bernardo Silva on Sunday, following the Portuguese international’s late kick out at the Arsenal player. Photo by Florencia Tan Jun/Getty Images Martin Odegaard was involved in a contentious incident at the end of Norway’s match against Portugal on Sunday evening, as Bernardo Silva kicked out at him long after the Arsenal captain had played a pass. Odegaard was incensed by the kick, with the TV cameras appearing to pick up the player shouting “f**k you, f**k you” at Silva before squaring up to him. Silva wouldn’t meet his opponent’s eyes, shying away from the confrontation. The first key question after the game was whether the Gunners midfielder had picked up a serious injury. “I hope not, but I got a knock on my ankle there,” Odegaard said . “It probably won’t be good tonight, but I’m betting it will be fine in the next few days.” Photo by Marius Nordnes / Nordnes Foto/Getty Images As for the foul itself, Odegaard clearly still wasn’t happy about it in his post-match interview. “He’s lost his head. Just kicks me down long after I’ve played the ball away. I don’t understand what he’s doing,” Odegaard said. “You have to ask him (if it’s to do with his Manchester City past). I don’t know what he’s doing. It doesn’t belong on a football field. It’s a shame that people do that, but that’s life.” Odegaard also confirmed that Silva had made no apology to him, and TV interviewers quoted the Real Madrid player as saying: “It’s football, my friend.” Photo by Leonardo Fernandez/Getty Images Silva received a yellow card for the foul, but Norway centre-back Leo Ostigard suggested it could have been red. “It’s very late,” Ostigard said . “When you see it afterwards on video, it’s very ugly. It could well be red.” On Silva’s ‘it’s football’ comment, Ostigard added: “That’s too stupid. It’s terribly ugly. It’s just terribly bad. That’s the kind of thing we don’t want involving our captain. When it comes so long after, it looks quite deliberate.” With Norway losing the match 2-1, they’ll be looking for revenge when they face Portugal again on Sunday, October 4th.
