'Inexperienced moments' cost Exeter City - Taylor

Matt Taylor has seen his Exeter City side win just one League Two game so far this season [Shutterstock] Exeter City manager Matt Taylor says "inexperienced moments" cost his side as they lost 1-0 at Bristol Rovers. The Grecians' slipped to 21st in League Two after a sixth successive league match without a victory. It was the fourth consecutive game in the fourth tier where Exeter have failed to score a goal - their four in eight games is the second lowest in the division. "There was space on that pitch, first half especially, we got in some really good positions and it never materialised or never produced a moment of a real game-changing outcome," Taylor told BBC Radio Devon. "If it doesn't happen in terms of a goal scored or chance created then it's got to be a sustained period of pressure. "The irony is when we had any final third entries or any set pieces we've ended up defending counter-attacks. "So there's some inexperienced moments which keep on costing us, and they're going ask questions of your box and the one time we didn't get there first on a bouncing ball, their brightest player's put it in the back of their net." Bristol Rovers beat Exeter for 11th straight home win Defensively, Exeter have been encouraging - they have conceded just three goals in their past five matches. However, only scoring one goal in that time - a 1-1 draw with Barnet on 1 September - has ultimately cost them the chance to be higher up the league. It has led to Taylor to calling on someone in his squad to make the difference and turn his side's fortunes around. "We're so organised, we're so resolute, we're tough when we have to be, we do everything we possibly can, which is why our defeats have been one-goal margins against very good teams," said Taylor. "But if we want to score and ultimately hurt and be ahead in games, these moments have got to count for more. "As always it's a manager's responsibility because I put the players on the pitch and I set up in a certain way, but I am searching, striving and crying out for someone to stand up and say 'it'll be me'. "I'm not questioning their effort, I'll never do that with this group, but I'm certainly questioning how much guile and gumption they've really got in those moments, and if it really hurts enough. "The fans are moaning at me. That hurts, that is painful. Everything I've done for this football club and the fans are moaning at me, does it really hurt enough when those moments fall down?
