Feeney urges Carlisle to 'step up' after Woking loss

Carlisle slipped from 1-1 at half-time to being 5-1 down in a worrying second half showing at Brunton Park that left them just one point above the relegation zone in 19th. It was a fifth game without a win - with only two from their opening 10 games - and heaped pressure on head coach Rob Elliot. The Blues are back in action away to third-placed Fylde on Tuesday (19:45 BST) and Feeney is demanding an immediate response from his team-mates. "We have an opportunity to go out and put that right and we've got no choice in doing that," he told BBC Radio Cumbria. "It's about who's going to step up - myself, other players, who's going to do that for the team and the football club." Carlisle are a massive 16 points behind leaders Boreham Wood, while they are now also eight points adrift of the play-off places, for a side expected to be in the hunt for promotion this season having finished third with 95 points in the last campaign. The loss to Woking was the first time they have conceded five at home since February 2025 in Mike Williamson's final game in charge and some fans called for Elliot's exit at the final whistle. Defender Feeney, 27, pulled no punches about the team's performance. "We hold our hands up as a group of players," he added. "We need to do better for the football club, for the fans, for the city, for the manager and for the owners sitting up there. "We take responsibility as collectively it's not good enough. We need to rectify that and we need to rectify that quick."
