Liverpool forward out for the rest of the international break with ankle injury News coming out of the Netherlands camp is that Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo will miss the rest of the international break. The 27-year-old has returned to Liverpool to evaluate an ankle injury that he picked up during the Netherlands 2-1 victory over Serbia at the weekend. Xavi has a few options in his squad already to replace Gakpo so is not going to call up a replacement. The absence of Gakpo will give more opportunities to PSV winger Ruben van Bommel and Noa Lang. Gakpo, who joined Liverpool back in 2023, has gone on to play 186 games for the Premier League club, scoring 52 goals and winning the Premier League. Prior to joining Liverpool, Gakpo had played 159 games for PSV with 55 goals, winning the Eredivisie and KNVB Cup. At international level, Gakpo has played 56 games for the Dutch national team and has an impressive goalscoring record with 25. Gakpo scored the first goal of the Xavi era when the side drew 1-1 against Germany to open up the international break. It is not yet clear how severe the ankle injury is and whether or not Gakpo will miss time for Liverpool. Next up for the Netherlands is an away trip to Greece.
