And, even though they may be unbeaten across all competitions at the moment, there's still a lot more that needs to come from the Reds before they're going to be considered as genuine title contenders. They've tried to do this by welcoming new players to their ranks but, when some of their star players are being linked with moves away, it kind of feels like they're going backwards, rather than forwards. Galatasaray want to sign Virgil van Dijk from Liverpool in January In June 2027, a lot of the players among Liverpool's ranks have their contracts expiring. Virgil van Dijk , Alisson and Joe Gomez are just some of the players who could be on their way out of Anfield by the end of the current season. Obviously, most of these players still hold a major role for the Reds which is why seeing Van Dijk being linked with a move to Galatasaray is rather worrying. The centre-back is still one of Liverpool's most important players and, without him among their ranks, they'd be much worse off. However, as per a fresh update from Fotomac, Turkish Super Lig outfit Galatasaray are ready to approach Liverpool about a potential deal for the Dutchman. "The defensive problems at Galatasaray have now reached a point where the management is about to take action," they wrote . "Although the transfer window hasn't closed long ago, activity in this area is expected in January. "The Galatasaray management has decided to take action once again for the world-famous star Virgil van Dijk , who has been on their transfer agenda for 2 years. "The 35-year-old footballer, who expressed how much he missed Mohamed Salah after his departure, will be a free agent at the end of the season. "An offer will be made in January for the Dutch star, who has played in every match for Liverpool this year. "If the English team is reluctant to let go of their regular starter this season, an agreement will be reached with Van Dijk at the end of the season." Liverpool cannot let Virgil van Dijk leave in January Change is obviously needed at Liverpool but, at the moment, it feels like getting rid of Van Dijk would be a very silly thing for Liverpool to do. He's still their starting centre-back and is helping guide and mentor Jeremy Jacquet into becoming an even better player than he already is. Van Dijk's expertise is something that money can't buy and, since he's been a major part of Liverpool's squad since 2017, he knows the club inside and out. The Dutchman has played almost every game for the Reds this season and, even though they have a couple of young centre-backs looking to make their way into Iraola's plans, at the moment, none of them are on the same level as Van Dijk. A summer exit does feel quite likely, especially since no talks are underway about a new contract but, allowing him to leave in January would be stupid. Doing this would leave Liverpool with nowhere near enough time to find a replacement and, while it would free up a foreign place in their squad, nobody will be able to match the performances of Van Dijk. At the moment, these are obviously just rumours so anything can happen but, for now, the last thing that Liverpool should be looking to do is get rid of Van Dijk.
