Barcelona academy defender forcing Hansi Flick to take notice after superb form Landry Farre is putting himself back into the Barcelona first-team conversation after an excellent start to the season with Barça Atlètic. According to SPORT , the academy defender is beginning to attract attention from Hansi Flick again after producing a string of impressive displays for the reserve side.  His biggest contribution so far has come in front of goal, with Farre scoring twice in four appearances. What makes his current run particularly interesting is where he has been playing.  Although naturally a right-back, the Barcelona youngster has been operating at left-back and has still managed to make a strong impact going forward, just like Xavi Espart. His development has been building for some time, but this season has given him another opportunity to push his case. From Youth League winner to Flick’s radar Farre’s profile rose sharply towards the end of the 2024/25 campaign. The defender played an important role as Barcelona’s youth side won the UEFA Youth League before stepping up to Barça Atlètic during his second season at Under-19 level.  By the time he arrived with the reserve team, his performances had already established him as a dependable and adaptable defender. Ultimately, Flick took notice. The German coach included Farre in two first-team squads, giving the academy graduate the chance to experience the senior environment.  One of those call-ups came for Barcelona’s Champions League semi-final second leg against Inter Milan at San Siro, while the other was for the La Liga trip to Valladolid. Those experiences provided an indication of how highly Farre’s progress was being viewed internally. He has also filled in at centre-back when required. That combination of physical strength, technical development and tactical flexibility gives Flick plenty to monitor. Farre adding goals to his game There is another element to Farre’s development that has become harder to overlook: his attacking output. His two goals in four games suggest that the defender is becoming more willing to influence matches in the final third rather than simply concentrating on his defensive duties. His attacking instincts were always present, but they have become more visible this season as he has taken on greater responsibility. For a player who can operate in every defensive position, adding goals and attacking threat only strengthens his case.  Farre now has another opportunity to make the jump towards Barcelona’s first team, and his previous exposure to Flick means the coach already knows what he can offer.
