Nasser Al-Khelaifi confirms Real Madrid are ‘in the process’ of EFC return The last few years have seen Real Madrid take on some of the most powerful organizations in world football. One of these was none other than UEFA, the supreme authority in European football, as the Merengue club came in direct conflict with the European body by virtue of being the main promoter of the European Super League project . This conflict had several implications for the club and for European football. One of these was the exit of Real Madrid from several other footballing bodies, including the European Football Clubs (EFC), formerly ECA. However, the Merengue club ended its legal battles with UEFA a few months ago, and a kind of rapprochement has taken place between the two entities. In its aftermath, the possibility of Los Blancos returning to the EFC is also emerging. This is clear from some of the developments that took place at the 33 rd EFC Assembly, that took place in Copenhagen, Denmark, on Tuesday. As Diario AS has reported, the president of EFC, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, revealed that Real Madrid are in the process of returning to this body: “I would like to thank Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez for believing that the future of European football should be built on unity and collective interests. We are pleased that they are in the process of returning to the EFC family.” In fact, the Merengue club was represented in this last assembly as well, as Anas Laghrari, one of the closest advisors of Florentino Perez, was in presence. However, he was there on behalf of A22, the company that is promoting the Super League, and not of Real Madrid. Meanwhile, FC Barcelona also formally returned to EFC, as their president, Joan Laporta, was also in attendance. For now, it remains to be seen whether or when Real Madrid would return to this body.
