Thomas Tuchel says he hasn’t spoken to England’s Man City contingent about bombshell verdict

Thomas Tuchel did not feel the need to look after his Manchester City players in the wake of a bombshell verdict that captain Harry Kane is confident will not impact the England team’s focus. The sporting world was rocked by Tuesday’s confirmation that an independent commission had found City guilty of all charges related to breaches of Premier League financial rules between 2009-10 and 2017-18. The Etihad Stadium outfit face severe sanctions after the staggering details about “sham deals” were laid bare just under three hours before England kicked off their Nations League match in Czechia. Nico O’Reilly missed the match through injury , but City team-mates Marc Guehi and Elliot Anderson had to put the earth-shattering details aside to help secure a 2-0 win against the 10-man hosts. Asked if he had to look after England’s City players in Prague, Tuchel told BBC Radio 5 Live : “I did not. I have a bad conscience now. “I did not actually because I’m just focused on everything what we have to deal with here and to prepare the team, so I did not talk to them about the issue and I will not comment on it.” Pushed on whether he was happy with Guehi and Anderson’s state of mind, he said: “Oh, I think Marc today was absolutely excellent after a tough match against Spain. “The reaction was on the highest level. He was absolutely excellent and Elliot Anderson had a very good match as well.” Tuchel had earlier been blocked from answering a question about the City verdict by England’s press officer during the post-match press conference. I need to obviously understand more of the information, but I understand it’s a big topic right now and you can’t shy away from it. “But, as I always say, when I’m with England, when we are with England, it’s about England and that’s what we focus on. It’s Croatia on Saturday now.” England travel to Rijeka to take on Croatia before rounding off this four-match camp against Czechia at Wembley next Tuesday. Nico O’Reilly will be assessed before the weekend’s game (PA) Tuchel has squad decisions to take as this frantic Nations League camp continues, with City talent O’Reilly and fellow Ezri Konsa to be assessed before this weekend’s game. “I cannot tell you (how many changes I will make),” Tuchel said. “We have now three days, which is a big difference to only two days (between Spain and facing Czechia). “We decided not to go back to England, but to stay in Prague one more night, get some good rest and then travel straight to Croatia to have two training sessions there. “We will push everyone to be available, even Ezri Konsa and Nico O’Reilly hopefully and then we know more. “But, yeah, it’s of course the next important match for us against a direct opponent and we want to win.”
