Taylor understands Exeter fans' frustrations

Matt Taylor returned for a second spell as Exeter City manager in March [Shutterstock] Boss Matt Taylor says he understands why Exeter City fans are unhappy with results, but says his squad are trying to improve. The Grecians have not scored a league goal since 1 September and have won just one League Two game this season. The results come against a backdrop of major financial constraints on the fan-owned club following overspending two seasons ago and relegation from League One last season. "It's part and parcel of the job," Taylor told BBC Radio Devon. "If you don't win games of football then people will vent their frustration, their anger, their disappointment, their dissatisfaction, their disapproval of me who's in charge of this group at the moment. "I still think most of our fans know where we are as a football club and what we're going through at this moment in time." 'Inexperienced moments' cost Exeter City - Taylor Bristol Rovers beat Exeter for 11th straight home win Exeter's lack of goals, with just four in eight matches, appears to have been their biggest downfall this season. They have the second-best defensive record in League Two with only Walsall conceding fewer than the six goals let in by the Grecians. Their past two games have ended in goalless draws against the Saddlers and Tranmere while their past two away losses have both been 1-0 - at Bristol Rovers and Port Vale. "That's a team effort, that's a collective effort from the centre-forwards to the centre-halves to the goalkeeper," Taylor added. "That's everyone doing everything they possibly can in those moments of the game, and there's a skillset to that. "But we all know our points tally, our league position, everything would be different if we'd have scored more goals and been on top more in games. "There's a formula we're trying to get to in terms of our attacking principles to help us in those moments. "They're so resilient in other moments of the game but they are clearly wobbling when the gates open up and you think 'step through them and produce an opportunity and produce a moment and create or score yourself' and it just ends not in the way we want. "So there's a little bit of a confidence issue and then you have to look to freshen things up, but you'll only be able to freshen things up if you've got the personnel in the squad to do so."
