Sassuolo prevailed 1-0 in the group stage, only to suffer a heavy 7-1 loss in the semi-finals. Martina Piemonte netted a hat-trick in that one-sided affair and the opener in this league encounter.  Sassuolo hit back inside the opening five minutes of the second period, thanks to Giulia Guerzoni’s Olimpico effort. The inswinging corner flew over the goalkeeper and dropped with pace into the far corner to the delight of the home side. However, that joy lasted just three minutes until Manuela Giugliano restored Roma’s lead. The Roma captain made sure of the win in stoppage time, as she swept the ball home from Frederikke Thøgersen’s driven ball.  Juventus ease to three points Serie A Women’s Cup winners Juventus fought back from a goal down to take three points off Napoli on Saturday. Juventus loanee Emilie Mece required just 16 minutes to open the scoring against her parent club. As it proved, Mece’s debut goal was soon followed by Alba Redondo’s fourth strike in three games. The Spanish forward guided the ball in from Estela Carbonell’s low cross to level the scoreline.  The contest remained finely poised at the break, but that all changed within 10 minutes of the restart. Making her Serie A debut, Amaiur Sarriegi intelligently held the ball up and worked the space in the box to feed Emma Godo for a driven finish past the unmoved goalkeeper. Any doubt over the scoreline was then quashed by Remina Chiba’s 90th-minute effort. Lina Magull found the all-important breakthrough when she pounced on a poor clearance and fired past the despairing goalkeeper. As the game entered stoppage time, Brittany Raphino applied a deft touch from Karólína Lea Vilhjálmsdóttir’s inswinging free-kick to wrap up the home win. The only disappointment for Inter was that they ended the contest with 10 players. Clarisse Le Bihan received the second of her two yellows for a late, sliding challenge on Emma Severini. Meanwhile, an own goal handed Como an early lead in their away meeting with Ternana. The hosts soon hit back through Sofie Hornemann, whose effort was originally ruled out for offside before being overturned upon review. Hornemann’s first Serie A goal ensured the two teams went into the break on level terms. Como made the better start after the 15-minute break, requiring just five second-half minutes to restore the lead. Agene Nielsen stooped low to direct her header in off the post. Nielsen’s first Como goal proved enough to seal all three points. Lazio, Parma share spoils Lazio went agonisingly close to scoring an early opener in their home meeting with Parma. Antonietta Castiello’s cross from the right side forced Camelia Ceasar to make a desperate stop. Replays showed it was a tight call as to whether the ball had crossed the line, with the officials ultimately deciding that the goalkeeper had just done enough. With neither side able to find the breakthrough, they both had to be content with a point apiece. Did you know? Parma are yet to score against top-flight opposition this season. Their goalless draw against Lazio followed three consecutive defeats without scoring in the Serie A Women’s Cup group stage.
