Brennan keen to learn from seasoned counterparts
Barnet boss Dean Brennan has said he is always keen to learn from his fellow League Two bosses, describing it as an "unbelievable education" when he speaks with vastly experienced counterparts after matches. Brennan recently passed the milestone of five years in charge of the Bees, who are top of the fourth tier. The 46-year-old appeared on the latest episode of the BBC's 72+ podcast alongside Bristol Rovers boss Steve Evans - one of a group of fourth-tier managers he namechecked as people he is able to learn from. "There are so many good managers around and the experience in our league is insane," Brennan said. "Every manager I speak to every week, I think 'there's no young managers'. You look at Steve, Steve Cotterill [at Cheltenham], Paul Cook [at Chesterfield] - they've rattled off [hundreds of games as a manager] and have all won promotions. I learn so much from them. "I always have a drink with everyone after the game - I invite them in, whether they have a cup of tea or not, and I want to get educated by these people. They've done it. "It's an unbelievable education when you open the floor to a Steve Cotterill or a Paul Cook." 'Togetherness the key' as Brennan marks five years Break 'a kick in the teeth' for Barnet - Brennan Brennan led Barnet to the National League title in 2025 and his side finished eighth in League Two last season, just outside the play-off places. This term, Barnet have gone unbeaten in their first seven league games and lead the division, despite not playing last weekend because of international call-ups. "In the five full seasons I've been at the club, we've raised the bar every year," Brennan added. "We set a points target. Last year we got 76 points so our supporters and everyone around the club are going to want more than that. If you get into the eighties, you've got a great chance of automatic promotion. "We've got 15 points from seven games, our points-per-game [ratio] is very good. We feel we should have more points and we've got a huge six weeks coming up. "To go to Bristol Rovers [on 10 October], we go to Crewe [on 31 October] - we've got some serious games so we're going to be tested but we're looking forward to the challenge. "I've no doubt that if the players keep going to the line and keep stepping forward, we can have positive results." All the latest Barnet news
