Real Madrid star Asencio sends message after surgery: ‘Thinking about coming back stronger than ever’ Real Madrid confirmed earlier today that defender Raul Asencio underwent surgery to resolve a fractured tibia in his right leg. The La Fabrica graduate had been dealing with the injury since January, but had been relying on conservative treatment while continuing to play for the team. However, with the pain not subsiding and the results of the treatment not coming out as expected, a decision was finally made for him to go under the knife. Having successfully undergone surgery, Asencio is now expected to be out for close to four months, meaning he will not play for Real Madrid again in 2026. Asencio sends message Following the operation, Asencio has now taken to social media to send a message to the Real Madrid supporters. The Spaniard then thanked the Real Madrid medical staff as well as Dr Manuel Leyes, who performed the operation today. “I want to express a special thank you to club medical services and Dr. Leyes for a successful surgery and all their support during this process.” Focusing on what’s ahead In the final part of his message, Asencio made it clear that he was already looking forward to his recovery as he wished to come back stronger than ever to play for Real Madrid. Concluding, the defender also thanked Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho who visited the hospital today to meet him after the surgery. “Thank you Mister for the visit. Hala Madrid.” Asencio has not made a single appearance for Real Madrid so far this season. The defender started pre-season under Mourinho, but a thigh injury meant he was sidelined for several weeks. While he has been back in the squad for the past four matches, Mourinho had not used him thus far. The game against Villarreal after the international break could have been a window of opportunity for the academy product given that Dean Huijsen is suspended and Ibrahima Konate is also recovering from an injury. But Asencio will now be sidelined for months.
