Tuchel could unleash England’s wildcard against Croatia
Tuchel could unleash England’s wildcard against Croatia England are away at Croatia on Saturday, aiming to record back-to-back victories in the UEFA Nations League . The Three Lions beat Czechia on Tuesday to claim their first win in the current campaign of the competition. Thomas Tuchel’s side beat Croatia at the World Cup, extending their winning streak to three matches against them. Tuchel could drop captain Harry Kane from the starting XI to manage his workload, with the Bayern Munich striker starting the last two games. Dominic Calvert-Lewin is Kane’s natural replacement, but Tuchel has already hinted that he could turn to Jude Bellingham as he likes him ‘as a No 9’. Bellingham came off the bench against Czechia and is expected to return to the starting lineup. Bellingham scored in his only appearance as a striker for England, in the 2-1 Nations League defeat to Greece in 2024. The Real Madrid midfielder can drop deep and create space for others to attack, much like Kane. Bellingham also offers mobility, drifting into wide areas and stretching the defence. He demonstrated this against Croatia at the World Cup, scoring after a powerful run beyond the defence. Beyond his offensive contribution, his athleticism allows England to press from the front and win possession. That said, Bellingham is expected to play a crucial role for the Three Lions wherever he is deployed as they look to keep the pressure on group leaders Spain.
